Thermal Works LLC has an exciting opportunity for a QC/QA Manager to join our team, working directly with the Chief Operating Officer. We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented QC/QA Manager to oversee and optimize the quality control and quality assurance processes for our company, which works closely with contract manufacturers. This role will be responsible for day-to-day management of the QC/QA department, restructuring and improving internal processes, and ensuring that all contract manufacturers adhere to established quality standards and practices. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with expertise in working with contract manufacturers and a deep understanding of HVAC systems and quality management systems.

Key Responsibilities

Day-to-Day Oversight

  • Oversee daily operations of the QC/QA department, ensuring that all internal quality control activities align with company standards and meet industry regulations.
  • Develop and maintain quality documentation, including inspection reports, non-conformance reports, and corrective actions.
  • Supervise a team of internal QC/QA staff, providing leadership and guidance on best practices for quality assurance in product development and manufacturing.
  • Perform regular inspections and audits of contract manufacturers’ operations, ensuring compliance with established QC/QA standards.
  • Maintain and monitor quality metrics, reporting on performance trends, and addressing any quality issues promptly.

Restructuring & Optimization of the QC/QA Department

  • Lead efforts to restructure and streamline the QC/QA department for increased efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Develop and implement new QC/QA processes, procedures, and practices, focusing on continuous improvement and quality excellence.
  • Work with senior management to align departmental objectives with company-wide goals, improving overall operational performance.
  • Integrate quality management systems into the day-to-day operations of the department, ensuring consistency across all processes.

Contract Manufacturer Oversight

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with contract manufacturers, ensuring they understand and comply with our quality standards and practices.
  • Conduct regular on-site inspections and audits of contract manufacturers’ facilities to verify that they are following the company’s established QC/QA guidelines.
  • Collaborate with contract manufacturers to address any quality concerns, issues, or deviations, ensuring prompt resolution.
  • Provide guidance and training to contract manufacturers on quality standards, best practices, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Review and approve incoming inspection reports, production processes, and quality certifications from contract manufacturers to ensure compliance with our requirements.

Continuous Improvement

  • Develop and drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce defects, waste, and inefficiencies throughout the production process.
  • Lead and promote the use of statistical process control (SPC), root cause analysis, and other quality improvement tools in collaboration with both internal and contract manufacturing teams.
  • Regularly review and assess the quality control processes of contract manufacturers, identifying opportunities for improvements or upgrades.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, regulations, and best practices, ensuring the company remains compliant and competitive in the market.

Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams

  • Work closely with R&D, Service, and Operations teams to ensure smooth product development and manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate with the Purchasing team to ensure that components and materials sourced from external vendors meet quality expectations.
  • Serve as the liaison between internal teams and contract manufacturers, ensuring alignment on quality objectives and product specifications.

Customer Focus

  • Address and resolve any customer complaints or concerns related to product quality, liaising between the company and contract manufacturers as needed.
  • Ensure that all products meet or exceed customer specifications and expectations for performance, safety, and durability.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Management, or related field (preferred).
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in quality control/assurance, with at least 2 years in a managerial or leadership role.
  • Prior experience working with contract manufacturers, especially in the HVAC or related manufacturing industry, is highly preferred.
  • Proven track record in restructuring quality departments or processes to improve performance.

Specific Skills / Abilities

  • In-depth knowledge of quality management systems (QMS), ISO standards (e.g., ISO 9001), and industry best practices in HVAC manufacturing.
  • Expertise in supplier management and vendor audits, with a specific focus on contract manufacturers.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC products, components, and systems.
  • Proficiency in quality improvement methodologies (Six Sigma, Lean, SPC, FMEA, Root Cause Analysis).
  • Experience with quality management software tools and systems.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to manage and inspire a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with cross-functional teams, senior management, and external partners (contract manufacturers).
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a proactive approach to resolving quality issues.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
