Cameron is pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Computer Science at University of Maryland, College Park.
Recently graduated from Glenelg (MD) High School’s engineering program, Cameron Alexis Silver has been awarded an Endeavour Women In Tech (EWIT) scholarship. With this scholarship she will pursue a degree in electrical engineering with a minor in computer science at the University of Maryland, College Park.
A 2024 national finalist for NASA’s HUNCH program, Cameron’s project focused on engineering a novel way to filter water on the International Space Station to prevent the buildup of biofilms. Her work was presented at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX to a team of scientists, astronauts and engineers. Impressing the review panel, she was invited to the First-Year Innovation & Research (FIRE) program at the University of Maryland, College Park, where she will work alongside professors to continue expanding on this research.
Her interests outside of engineering include both dance and cheerleading, serving as cheer captain for two consecutive years. Said Cameron, “While cheerleading and athletics have enhanced my leadership and communication skills, my ultimate goal is to ensure that I am prepared to work in the space field, while laying the academic foundation to obtain a PhD in Electrical Engineering. And the support from EWIT will greatly help me achieve this.”
Cameron also exemplifies the ethos of the EWIT group. As she says, “I have always had an affinity for leading and teaching others. If given the opportunity, I would also seek to educate elementary and middle school students about STEM careers and encourage them to pursue their interests in the fields. This ability to give back would be my greatest achievement, especially as it relates to encouraging girls to become the next generation of engineers.”
Endeavour is thrilled to support young women like Cameron! Congratulations!
