Kaitlyn is a second-year student from Pennsylvania studying computer science and English at Villanova University.
Hailing from Pennsylvania, Kaitlyn Harrington completed her first year of studies in computer science and English at Villanova University. She is a proud recipient of an Endeavour Women In Tech (EWIT) scholarship.
As a Distinguished Honor Student, Champion of Learning Medalist, and National Honor Society Member, she took 20 advanced placement and honors courses in high school. Now, as a computer science student, she holds a 4.0 as a dean’s list honoree and has been honored as an Amie Dansby Women in Technology National Award recipient, a VIP Women in Technology National Scholar and a McCann STEM National Scholar.
Technology, storytelling, and how we can use both to uplift people’s lives is a core motivation for Kaitlyn. In 2018 she founded ‘Play It Forward’ (fb.com/PlayItForwardGear). This initiative uses social engagement and data management tools to generate community donations of soccer, baseball, softball, lacrosse, and field hockey equipment. This gear is provided free to kids so they can keep playing sports. Over four years, ‘Play It Forward’ has collected over 7,200 equipment items, equipping over 720 kids from ten surrounding communities. Recognizing her efforts she has been honored with the Girl Scout Gold Award, President George H.W. Bush Point of Light Award, Union League of Philadelphia Good Citizen Award, National Liberty Museum Young Hero Medal, United States Congressional and Pennsylvania Legislative citations for service leadership.
In addition to ‘Play It Forward’, Kaitlyn also developed the ‘Good News Now’ (GGN) network (fb.com/TellUsTheGoodNews) in March 2020 to address deteriorating mental health across her neighborhood and community, worsened by COVID isolation. Using video production and online social syndication she distributes a global broadcast to elevate viewers’ mental health in over 65 countries across six continents. Live with Kelly and Ryan, ABC News, FOX News, UPtv, and InspireMore are just a few outlets that have highlighted GNN.
Says Kaitlyn, “I am grateful for the EWIT scholarship to help me advance my technology and storytelling skills. And, to help me reach my career goal of becoming a developer of solutions that address issues impacting our communities, country and beyond.”
EWIT and the entire Endeavour community are proud to award a scholarship to this outstanding young woman. Congratulations Kaitlyn!
